Serum Haloperidol Level and Saliva Haloperidol level

Abstract
This study was performed for searching the possibility whether saliva could be used as an alternative specimen instead of blood in the therapeutic drug monitoring of haloperidol
Serum haloperidol levels and saliva haloperidol levels were measured by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) with ultraviolet detector.
Haloperidol and its metabolite, reduced haloperidol, were analyzed simultaneously by the HPLC in 27 schizophrenic patients.
Serum haloperidol levels were no correlated with saliva haloperidol levels.
The significant correlation between saliva and serum reduced haloperidol level, reduced haloperidol/haloperidol ratio could not be prove.
There were no correlation of dosage between saliva haloperidol and reduced haloperidol level, reduced haloperidol/haloperidol ratio. Also no corredlation between serum haloperidol and reduced haloperidol level, reduced haloperidol/haloperidol
ratio
and
dosage.
But, correlation between serum level of haloperidoi and dosage became apparent.
